COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology and Sociology BSc (Hons) is a three-year interdisciplinary degree that combines psychological science with sociological theory to provide a broad understanding of human behaviour and society. In Year 1, students are introduced to foundational concepts through modules such as Mechanisms of the Mind, Psychology Across Time and Cultures, Psychopathology, Constructing Modern Societies, Social Divisions, Sociological Imagination, and Researching Social Life. This stage builds essential knowledge of both disciplines while developing early research and analytical skills. In Year 2, students deepen their understanding through more advanced study of individual differences, cognitive and biological explanations of behaviour, and social and cultural influences. They also explore sociological topics such as self and society, sociology of everyday life, living on the margins, and contemporary social issues, alongside training in qualitative and quantitative research methods. In Year 3, students engage in specialised and applied study, including a joint Psychology and Sociology Dissertation and modules such as Clinical Psychology, Cyberpsychology, Forensic Psychology, and Health Psychology. Sociological themes include gender politics, human rights, racism in the global context, and community-focused work. Overall, the program develops strong research, critical thinking, and analytical skills for careers in social sciences and related fields.
