COURSE CURRICULUM

The Pharmaceutical Science BSc (Hons) program is structured over three years, providing a comprehensive blend of biology, chemistry, and applied pharmaceutical knowledge. In Year 1, students build a strong scientific foundation through modules such as Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, General Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry, alongside developing essential laboratory skills and data handling techniques. This stage ensures students gain the core knowledge and practical abilities required for more advanced study. In Year 2, the course becomes more specialised, introducing topics such as Pharmacodynamics, Drug Delivery, Organic Chemistry of ring systems and unsaturated molecules, and advanced analytical methods like spectroscopy and quantitative analysis. Students also study important biological areas including Immunity, Microbiology, and Metabolism, deepening their understanding of how drugs interact with the human body. In Year 3, the focus shifts to advanced and applied pharmaceutical science, with modules covering Medicinal Chemistry, Neuropharmacology, Systems Pharmacology, and Pharmaceutical Formulation and Quality Assurance. Students also undertake a Research Project and have opportunities for work placements or sandwich placements, gaining valuable industry experience. Additional topics such as Advanced Organic Chemistry, Bioanalytical Science, and Programming for Science further enhance technical expertise. Overall, the course equips students with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional experience needed for careers in pharmaceutical and healthcare industries.
