COURSE CURRICULUM

The Nursing (Mental Health) BSc (Hons) program is structured over three years, combining theoretical learning with practical experience to prepare students for professional practice. In Year 1, students build a foundation in nursing through modules such as Foundations of Professional Practice, Introduction to Biosciences in Nursing, and Introduction to Mental Health Nursing in community and primary care settings. They also undertake Practice 1 and study Understanding and Promoting Health and Wellbeing, developing essential clinical and communication skills. In Year 2, students deepen their knowledge and practical abilities through modules including Developing Mental Health Nursing Care in acute settings, Nursing Consultation, Pharmacology and Medicines Management, and Working with the Evidence Base and Beyond, alongside Practice 2, which enhances their real-world clinical experience. In Year 3, the focus shifts to advanced practice and leadership, with modules such as Leadership, Collaboration and Integrated Care in Practice, as well as Practice 3, allowing students to apply their learning in professional environments. The course also includes a Research, Innovation and Improvement dissertation, encouraging critical thinking and evidence-based practice. Overall, the program equips students with the skills, knowledge, and experience needed for a successful career in mental health nursing.
