COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medical Bioscience BSc (Hons) program is structured over three years, providing a comprehensive understanding of human biology, disease processes, and laboratory science. In Year 1, students build a strong scientific foundation through modules such as Anatomy and Physiology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Fundamentals of Molecular Biology, and General Microbiology, alongside Laboratory Skills and Professional Studies, which develop essential practical and academic competencies. In Year 2, the focus shifts to more specialised areas including Human Immunity, Infection Science, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Metabolism, and Tissue Science, allowing students to deepen their understanding of how diseases develop and affect the body at cellular and systemic levels. In Year 3, students engage with advanced and applied topics such as Advanced Tissue Science, Advanced Infection Science, Biochemical Pathology, Systems Pathology, Toxicology, Genomics, Medical Genetics, and Virology. The program also includes a research Project and an optional Work Placement, enabling students to apply their knowledge in real-world or laboratory settings. Overall, the course develops strong analytical, technical, and research skills, preparing graduates for careers in medical research, healthcare laboratories, the pharmaceutical industry, and related scientific fields, as well as further postgraduate study.
