COURSE CURRICULUM

The Media and Communications BSc (Hons) program is structured over three years, combining theoretical understanding with practical media skills. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Communication and Image, Media and Society, Media Genres, and Media Histories, alongside Digital Skills, Moving Image Practice, Sound Design for Linear Media, and Writing and Research Skills. These modules introduce key concepts and creative techniques used across media industries. In Year 2, students deepen their knowledge of media contexts and production through subjects such as Contemporary Television, Media and Communities, Nation, Migration and Media, Stardom and Celebrity, and Visual Cultures. Practical and professional skills are developed through modules like Television Studio Practice, Digital Project Management, Documentary Photography, and Podcast Production. In Year 3, students engage with advanced and specialised topics including Media Power and Politics, Genders and Identities, Urban Media, and Researching Media Audiences, while also exploring creative areas such as Documentary Filmmaking and Digital Video Post Production. The course culminates in a Creative Practice or Research Dissertation Project, alongside career-focused learning. Overall, the program equips students with critical, creative, and professional skills for careers in media, communications, and related industries.
