COURSE CURRICULUM

The Games Programming BSc (Hons) degree at London Metropolitan University is structured over three years to provide students with the technical expertise, creative skills, and professional experience needed for careers in the gaming industry. In Year 1, students develop a foundation in programming and game design through modules such as C++ game programming, C++ programming, computer and gaming hardware architectures, game design and development, introduction to game prototyping, and logic and mathematical techniques. This year emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical application, giving students the skills to create and test simple game projects. Year 2 advances students’ capabilities with modules in advanced C++ programming, advanced C++ for games, game implementation, game prototype development, programming graphical special effects, shaders and graphics programming, sound design for games, and virtual reality game development. These modules enable students to produce more complex and interactive game experiences while developing technical proficiency in graphics, audio, and immersive environments. In Year 3, students consolidate their learning through advanced game implementation, advanced prototype development, artificial intelligence for games, networking for games, audio plug-in coding, and creative dissertation projects. Additional modules on career development, portfolio building, documentary filmmaking, and interaction design for non-humans prepare students for professional practice. Across all three years, the program integrates project-based learning, collaboration, and technical experimentation, ensuring graduates are well-equipped with practical experience, a strong portfolio, and the confidence to succeed as games programrs and technical specialists.
