COURSE CURRICULUM

The Forensic Science BSc (Hons) degree at London Metropolitan University is structured over three years to provide students with a thorough understanding of both the scientific and practical aspects of forensic investigation. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology, while also gaining an introduction to forensic science. Laboratory skills and professional studies modules develop practical expertise and essential workplace competencies. Year 2 focuses on specialized forensic topics, including firearms, ammunition and ballistics, marks and impression evidence, scene interpretation, and spectroscopic and bioanalytical methods, alongside studies in microbiology, molecular biology, and metabolism, equipping students with the technical knowledge to analyze complex evidence. In the final year, students advance their skills through modules such as advanced bioanalytical science, forensic trace evidence, toxicology, genomics, medical genetics, and inferences from biological remains. The curriculum also includes practical components, such as a research project, a project module, and the opportunity for a work placement in life sciences, providing real-world experience. Across all three years, the program combines theoretical knowledge, hands-on laboratory practice, and critical analysis, ensuring that graduates are highly skilled, scientifically literate, and professionally prepared to evaluate evidence, interpret crime scenes, and contribute confidently to the forensic science field.
