COURSE CURRICULUM

The Data Science BSc (Hons) degree is structured over three years, providing a progressive development of technical, analytical, and practical skills in data science. In Year 1, students gain a strong foundation with modules including Data Analysis, Financial Mathematics, Fundamentals of Computing, Introduction to Information Systems, Logic and Mathematical Techniques, and Programming, which establish essential knowledge in mathematics, computing, and problem-solving. Year 2 builds on these skills with more applied and specialised modules such as Data Analytics, Data Engineering, Databases, Programming with Data, Smart Data Discovery, Statistical Methods and Modelling Markets, and Professional and Ethical Issues. These modules equip students to manage, analyse, and interpret complex datasets, while fostering awareness of ethical and professional standards in data science practice. In Year 3, students advance into high-level topics and practical applications, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data in Business, Big Data and Visualisation, Data and Web Development, Cryptography and Number Theory, alongside a major Project and Project Analysis and Practice. Career Development Learning supports students in preparing for employment and professional opportunities. Overall, the program combines theoretical understanding, technical expertise, and hands-on experience, preparing graduates for careers in data science, analytics, machine learning, AI, and related technology-driven fields across diverse industries.
