COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology BSc (Hons) degree is structured over three years, providing a progressive understanding of crime, criminal behaviour, and the justice system. In Year 1, students are introduced to foundational concepts through modules such as Becoming a Criminologist, Issues in the Criminal Justice System, Key Concepts in Policing, and The Development of Criminological Thought. These are supported by studies in research methods and traditional criminological theories, helping students build essential analytical and academic skills. In Year 2, the course broadens to include more applied and contemporary topics, with modules like Crime in Context, Crime, Media and Technology, Youth, Crime and Violence, Cybercrime and Surveillance, and Working with Offenders. Students also develop practical research skills and gain insight into professional roles within the criminal justice sector. By Year 3, the focus shifts to advanced and specialized areas, including Organised Crime, Punishment and Prison, Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism, and Gender and Crime. Students complete a Criminology Project and may engage in work-based learning, enhancing their practical experience. Overall, the course combines theoretical knowledge with real-world application, preparing students for careers in criminology and related fields.
