COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology and Psychology BSc (Hons) degree is a three-year program that integrates the study of criminology with psychological principles, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of crime, human behaviour, and social influences. In Year 1, students develop foundational knowledge through modules such as Becoming a Criminologist, Issues in the Criminal Justice System, Shades of Deviance, The Criminal Justice Framework, and key criminological theories, alongside psychology-focused modules including Mechanisms of the Mind, Psychology Across Time and Cultures, and Psychopathology. This establishes a base in both social and cognitive perspectives on criminal behaviour. Year 2 expands into applied and specialised topics, with modules covering Cognitive and Biological Explanations of Behaviour, Social and Cultural Explanations of Behaviour, Criminological Research in Context and Practice, Crime, Media and Technology, Cybercrime and Surveillance, Youth, Crime and Violence, and Working with Offenders. This stage develops research skills and professional insight into the criminal justice system. In Year 3, students focus on advanced and practical areas including the Criminology Project, Cognition and Emotion, Cyberpsychology, Clinical Psychology, Serious and Serial Offenders, Punishment and Prison, and Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism, alongside work-based learning opportunities. Overall, the program combines theoretical knowledge, psychological understanding, and practical experience, preparing graduates for careers in criminal justice, psychology, research, and related fields.
