COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology and Policing BSc (Hons) degree is structured over three years, combining foundational criminological theory with specialised study of policing practice. In Year 1, students build essential knowledge through modules such as Becoming a Criminologist, Issues in the Criminal Justice System, Key Concepts in Policing, Researching Crime and Deviance, Shades of Deviance, The Criminal Justice Framework, and core criminological theories, establishing a strong understanding of crime, victims, and policing within the UK context. Year 2 expands into applied and professional areas, including Becoming a Criminal Justice Professional, Crime Prevention and Environmental Design, Perspectives on Policing, Crime in Context, Crime, Media and Technology, Cybercrime and Surveillance, and modules exploring youth crime, drugs, and working with offenders. This stage develops practical research skills and prepares students for engagement with real-world criminal justice challenges. In Year 3, the focus shifts to advanced topics and independent study, with modules such as the Criminology Project, Policing Strategies and Investigations, Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism, Organised Crime, Serious and Serial Offenders, Punishment and Prison, and Victims and Crime, alongside work-based learning opportunities. Overall, the program integrates theoretical knowledge, practical policing insight, and professional experience, equipping graduates with the analytical, research, and operational skills necessary for careers in policing, criminal justice, and related sectors.
