COURSE CURRICULUM

The Building Surveying BSc (Hons) course modules are designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the built environment, progressing from fundamental concepts to advanced professional practice. In Year 1, students are introduced to core areas such as Built Environment Principles, Construction Technology and Building Services, Materials Science, Structural Principles, and Real Estate Law and Planning, which together establish a strong foundation in construction and property-related knowledge. In Year 2, the focus shifts to more specialised topics including Urban Regeneration, Advanced Construction Technology, Building Pathology and Refurbishment, Environmental Science and Sustainability, and Building Surveying Principles, enabling students to develop a deeper understanding of how buildings are maintained, improved, and adapted to modern needs. In the final year, students study advanced and industry-relevant modules such as Sustainable Built Environments, Advanced Fire Safety, Project Management, and Building Surveying Practice. They also complete an applied research project and explore topics like Big Data and leadership skills. A professional placement further enhances practical experience. Overall, the course combines technical knowledge, legal understanding, and real-world application to prepare students for successful careers in building surveying.
