COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biomedical Engineering BEng (Hons) with foundation year offers a structured progression of modules that build technical knowledge and practical skills over four years. In Year 0, students are introduced to essential topics such as Cyber Security Fundamentals, Programming, Mathematics, and an overview of Robotics and the Internet of Things, providing a solid foundation for future study. Year 1 develops core engineering and biological knowledge through modules like Communications Engineering, Data Analysis, Electronic Systems, Human Physiology, Musculoskeletal Anatomy, and Introduction to Biomechanics. In Year 2, students advance their understanding with more specialized subjects including Advanced Electronic Systems, Microprocessors and Embedded Systems, Sensors and Control, Network Operating Systems, and Biomechanical Applications, alongside work-related learning to enhance practical experience. By Year 3, the focus shifts to cutting-edge and applied areas such as Bio-inspired AI, Computer Vision, IoT Systems and Security, Wireless Networks, and Digital Systems Applications. Students also study Human Movement Analysis and complete a major project that integrates their learning. Overall, the course combines engineering, computing, and biological sciences to prepare students for modern biomedical engineering challenges.
