COURSE CURRICULUM

The Textiles (including foundation year) BA (Hons) at London Metropolitan University is a structured four-year program that supports students from introductory study through to advanced textile design practice. The foundation year introduces key creative and analytical skills through modules such as Critical & Contextual Studies: Foundation, Critical Creative Practice, Techniques, and Project work, allowing students to explore different materials, processes, and ideas while building confidence in art and design. In Year 1, students develop core skills through 3D Design and Development 1, 3D Workshop Practice, Research and Visual Communication, and Critical & Contextual Studies 1 (3D), which strengthen both practical making abilities and critical thinking. In Year 2, learning becomes more advanced and professionally focused with modules including 3D Design Realisation, 3D Design and Development 2, Critical & Contextual Studies 2 (3D), and Professional Practice 1, encouraging students to refine their design identity and prepare for industry standards. In Year 3, students complete 3D Design and Development 3, a Major Project Resolution in Textiles, Critical & Contextual Studies 3 (Dissertation), and Professional Practice 2, enabling them to produce a substantial body of work and develop professional readiness. Overall, the course builds creativity, technical expertise, and critical understanding for careers in textile design and the wider creative industries.
