COURSE CURRICULUM

The Photography (including foundation year) BA (Hons) is structured over four years and combines creative exploration, technical training, and critical study. In Year 0, students are introduced to foundational concepts through modules such as Critical & Contextual Studies: Foundation, Critical Creative Practice, Techniques, and a Project, helping them build essential skills and confidence while developing early creative work. In Year 1, students begin more focused study through modules including Critical and Contextual Studies in Photography, Looking and Making, Project Work, and Techniques: Photography, which develop both practical abilities and conceptual understanding. In Year 2, learning becomes more advanced and professional, with modules such as Professional Practice, expanded Critical and Contextual Studies, Looking and Making 2, and Project Work 2, allowing students to refine their creative identity and gain industry awareness. In Year 3, students complete more independent and specialised study through a Dissertation in Critical and Contextual Studies, a Major Project, advanced Looking and Making, and Professional Practice, preparing them for careers in photography. Overall, the course blends creative experimentation with technical development and critical thinking, equipping students with the artistic, analytical, and professional skills needed for work in photography and related creative industries.
