COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mathematical Sciences (including foundation year) BSc (Hons) program is structured over four years, beginning with a foundation year and progressing to advanced mathematical study. In Year 0, students are introduced to essential topics such as Mathematics, Programming, Cyber Security Fundamentals, and the basics of Robotics and the Internet of Things, building core technical and analytical skills. In Year 1, the focus shifts to foundational mathematical concepts, including Data Analysis, Financial Mathematics, Graph Theory, Logic and Mathematical Techniques, Mathematical Proofs, and programming tools such as MAPLE, alongside IT applications for mathematics. Year 2 develops more advanced knowledge through modules such as Algebra, Differential Equations, Computational Mathematics, Statistical Methods and Modelling Markets, Group Theory and Vector Spaces, and Project Management, combining theory with practical application. In Year 3, students engage with higher-level and specialised topics such as Integral and Vector Calculus, Mathematical Modelling, Analysis, Cryptography and Number Theory, and Financial Modelling and Forecasting, alongside options like Category Theory and Error Correcting Codes. The program also includes an independent study project and career development learning. Overall, the course builds strong analytical, computational, and problem-solving skills, preparing graduates for careers in mathematics-related fields or further academic study.
