COURSE CURRICULUM

The Journalism (including foundation year) BA (Hons) is a four-year program designed to build strong academic, creative, and professional skills for a career in journalism and digital media. In Year 0, students are introduced to foundational media practice and communication through modules such as Making News for TV, Media Contexts, Writing for Media, Pop, Pulp and Politics, and studio-based training in tools like InDesign, Photoshop, filmmaking, and music video production. This year develops essential creative and technical confidence. In Year 1, students progress to core journalism skills through Audio and Video Techniques, Digital Storytelling, Journalism: Perspectives and Ideas, Reporting: News and Features, History of Journalism in Context, and Writing and Research Skills, alongside digital and communication training. In Year 2, the focus shifts to professional practice and industry experience with modules including Journalism Industry Experience, Media Law and Ethics, Newsroom Production, Radio News and Podcasting, Video and Television Production, and Digital Project Management, as well as specialist topics in film, culture, and media industries. In Year 3, students engage in advanced practice and research through Advanced Broadcast Journalism, Documentary Filmmaking, Campaigning Journalism, Creative Dissertation Projects, and specialist areas such as fashion writing and cultural journalism. Overall, the course develops versatile, industry-ready journalists with strong storytelling and production skills.
