COURSE CURRICULUM

International Relations (including foundation year) BA (Hons) is a structured four-year program designed to build strong academic, analytical, and professional understanding of global politics and international affairs. The foundation year provides an entry route for students who need additional preparation for degree-level study, helping them develop essential academic skills and confidence while introducing key ideas in politics and international relations. In Year 1, students explore core global issues and political concepts through modules such as After Empire: Regions and Powers in World Politics, Conflict and Diplomacy Since 1945, Global Wealth and Inequality, Perspectives from the Global South, Political Science Concepts and Institutions, Understanding the International System, and Violence, Peace and Progress, alongside language study. In Year 2, learning becomes more advanced and research-focused, with modules including Theories of International Relations, Foreign Policy Analysis, Modern Diplomacy, Peace and Conflict Studies, Sustainability and Environmental Justice, Politics of the European Union, and regional studies, supported by continued language development. In Year 3, students specialise further through modules such as International Security Studies, Conflict Resolution, Human Rights and Global Justice, Global Populism, Public Diplomacy, Strategic Communications, and optional placement or project work. Overall, the course develops critical thinking, global awareness, and analytical skills for careers in international relations and related fields.
