COURSE CURRICULUM

The Interior Architecture and Design BA (Hons) degree with a foundation year at London Metropolitan University is structured over four years to progressively develop students’ creative, technical, and professional skills. In Year 0, students complete foundational modules including Critical and Contextual Studies: Foundation, Critical Creative Practice, Project, and Techniques, which introduce essential design principles, creative thinking, and practical skills while allowing students to explore a range of artistic and spatial approaches. Year 1 builds on this foundation with Critical and Contextual Studies 1, Design Principles for Interiors, Interior Design Communication and Techniques, and Spatial Design, helping students develop core skills in visual communication, spatial planning, and design techniques. Year 2 advances students’ knowledge through Critical and Contextual Studies 2, Design Details, Human Scale, and Interior Design Practices and Techniques, emphasizing applied practice, attention to detail, and the consideration of ergonomics, scale, and materials in interior environments. In Year 3, students consolidate their learning with Critical and Contextual Studies 3: Dissertation, Integrated Design Practice, Major Project Realisation, and Project Design and Development for Interiors, focusing on independent research, professional project development, and the creation of a comprehensive portfolio. Across all four years, the program combines conceptual exploration, technical practice, and professional preparation, ensuring graduates are equipped with the skills, creativity, and confidence to pursue careers in interior architecture, design, and related creative industries.
