COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graphic Design BA (Hons) degree with a foundation year at London Metropolitan University is structured to develop students’ creative, technical, and professional skills progressively over four years. In Year 0, students build a strong foundation through modules in Critical and Contextual Studies: Foundation, Critical Creative Practice, Project, and Techniques, introducing essential skills in artistic practice, visual analysis, and creative problem-solving. Year 1 focuses on core principles of visual communication with modules such as Critical and Contextual Studies 1, Message and Meaning, Skills and Principles, and Work Ready Level 4, providing students with both conceptual understanding and practical techniques for graphic design. In Year 2, students expand their expertise through Critical and Contextual Studies 2, Skills and Enquiry, Voice and Vision, and Work Ready Level 5, developing their ability to analyze and apply design concepts while preparing for professional practice. In the final year, students consolidate their learning with advanced modules including Critical and Contextual Studies 3: Dissertation, the Major Project in Graphic Design, Skills and Innovation, and Work Ready Level 6, focusing on independent creative research, the production of a substantial body of work, and career preparation. Across all four years, the program integrates practical projects, theoretical study, and professional development, ensuring graduates leave with a strong portfolio, industry-ready skills, and the confidence to pursue careers in graphic design and visual communication.
