COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fine Art BA (Hons) with a foundation year at London Metropolitan University is structured to guide students through a progressive exploration of artistic practice over four years. The foundation year introduces essential creative, technical, and conceptual skills through modules such as Critical and Contextual Studies: Foundation, Critical Creative Practice, Project, and Techniques, providing students with a solid base to develop confidence and experiment across multiple artistic disciplines. In the first year, students build on this foundation through Critical and Contextual Studies 1, Directed Studio Practice, and Fine Art Techniques, focusing on developing observational skills, practical abilities, and an understanding of artistic methods and media. The second year emphasizes refinement and applied learning with Critical and Contextual Studies 2, Developing Studio Practice, and Fine Art Professional Practice, supporting students in advancing their personal creative direction while engaging with professional and contemporary art practices. In the final year, students consolidate their learning and creative development through modules such as Consolidating Studio Practice, Critical and Contextual Studies 3: Dissertation, and Planning Studio Practice, culminating in a cohesive body of work that reflects both technical skill and conceptual insight.
