COURSE CURRICULUM

The Film and Television Studies BA (Hons) with a foundation year at London Metropolitan University is a four-year program designed to prepare students for advanced study in film and television analysis and practice. The foundation year introduces essential media, technical, and creative skills through modules such as Making News for TV, Media Contexts, Pop, Pulp and Politics, Studio Craft in InDesign, Photoshop, Filmmaking, Music Video Production, and Writing for Media, building a solid foundation for undergraduate study. In the first year, students develop theoretical knowledge and practical skills through modules including Approaches to Film and Television Studies, Digital Skills, Evolution of Film, Film Theory and Film Style, Moving Image Practice, Revolution of Film and Television, Sound Design for Linear Media, and Writing and Research Skills. The second year emphasizes applied media practice and industry awareness with modules such as Contemporary European Cinema, Contemporary Television Studies, Location Sound and Dialogue Production, Media Industry Roles, Stardom, Performance and Celebrity, Television Studio Practice, Digital Project Management, Documentary Photography, Film and TV Industry and Politics, Podcast Production, Styling and Journalism, and Short Film Screenwriting. The final year focuses on advanced research, independent projects, and critical analysis through modules including Creative Practice and Research Dissertations, Contemporary America and Screen History, The French New Wave, Researching Media Audiences, Documentary Filmmaking, Digital Video Post Production, Career Development Learning, and specialized studies in queer media, postcolonial cinema, and interaction design. Across all four years, the course combines theoretical study, practical projects, and professional preparation, equipping graduates with the knowledge, skills, and experience required for careers in media, film, and television industries.
