COURSE CURRICULUM

The Film and Television Production BA (Hons) with a foundation year at London Metropolitan University is structured to develop students’ creative, technical, and professional skills across four years. The foundation year introduces essential media, technical, and creative skills through modules such as Making News for TV, Media Contexts, Pop, Pulp and Politics, Studio Craft in InDesign, Photoshop, Filmmaking, Music Video Production, and Writing for Media, preparing students for undergraduate-level study. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in film theory, production, and storytelling with modules including Film Theory and Film Style, Post-Production, Pre-Production and Visual Storytelling, Shooting Documentary, Shooting Drama, Sound Design for Linear Media, and Research and Writing Skills. The second year emphasizes applied learning, industry engagement, and technical development through modules such as Creative Filmmaking, Film Production Skills, Location Sound and Dialogue Production, Television Studio Practice, Digital Project Management, Documentary Photography, Industry and Politics in Film and TV, Podcast Production, Styling and Journalism, and Short Film Screenwriting. The final year focuses on independent and advanced practice through the Creative Practice and Research Dissertation Projects, Major Film and TV Project, Documentary Filmmaking, Digital Video Post-Production, and Career Development Learning, alongside exploration of media contexts such as postcolonial cinema, queer media, graphical communications, and interaction design. Across all four years, the program integrates theory, hands-on practice, and industry exposure, equipping graduates with the skills, experience, and portfolio needed for careers in film, television, and media industries.
