COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fashion Textiles BA (Hons) with a foundation year at London Metropolitan University is structured to develop students’ creative, technical, and professional skills over four years. The foundation year provides an introduction to essential design principles, practical techniques, and critical thinking through modules such as Critical and Contextual Studies: Foundation, Critical Creative Practice, Project, and Techniques. This year is designed to help students build confidence, refine their creative abilities, and prepare for undergraduate-level study. In the first year, students progress to 3D Design and Development 1, 3D Workshop Practice, Critical and Contextual Studies 1 (3D), and Research and Visual Communication, establishing a strong foundation in both conceptual understanding and practical textile and design skills. The second year develops more advanced competencies through 3D Design Realisation, 3D Design and Development 2, Critical and Contextual Studies 2 (3D), and Professional Practice 1, emphasizing applied learning, professional engagement, and technical refinement. In the final year, students focus on mastery and independent practice with 3D Design and Development 3, Critical and Contextual Studies 3: Dissertation, Major Project Resolution in Fashion Textiles, and Professional Practice 2, integrating research, design innovation, and industry-ready professional skills. Across all four years, the program encourages experimentation, portfolio development, and critical reflection, preparing graduates for careers in fashion textiles, design innovation, and related creative industries.
