COURSE CURRICULUM

The Education BA (Hons) degree with a foundation year is structured to guide students from introductory academic skills to advanced study in education, providing a comprehensive understanding of both theory and practice. The foundation year focuses on developing essential study skills, including research, writing, critical thinking, and enquiry, allowing students to gain confidence in a supportive, multidisciplinary environment before progressing to the main degree. In the first year, students explore foundational concepts through modules such as Becoming an Educationist, Knowledge, Culture and Education, Making Sense of Education, and The School and the City, which introduce them to key ideas about learning, educational systems, and the societal role of schools. The second year focuses on professional development and practical application with modules like Becoming a Teacher, Experiential Learning in Education, Psychology of Learning, Researching Education, and Sociology and the Curriculum, enabling students to apply theory in real-world contexts and gain insight into the learning process. In the final year, students consolidate their knowledge through advanced study and research with modules including the Education Studies Dissertation, Educators as Social Pedagogues, Gender and Education, Inclusion, Education and Equalities, and Multilingualism and Multiculturalism. This progression ensures students are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and practical experience to pursue careers in teaching, educational research, policy, or related fields.
