COURSE CURRICULUM

The Translation BA (Hons) at London Metropolitan University is a structured three-year degree that develops students’ linguistic, cultural, and professional translation skills for careers in global communication. In Year 1, students build core foundations through modules such as Cultural Awareness, Describing Language, Practical Resources for Translators, Proofreading Skills, The Translator and Culture, and The Translator and Language, alongside two language modules in Arabic, French, Spanish, or English, depending on their chosen pathway. These introduce essential translation concepts, language analysis, and intercultural understanding. In Year 2, students develop more advanced practical skills through modules including Electronic Tools for Translation, Managing Translation, Practical Translation Skills, Translation Process and Procedures, and Translating Text and Culture 1 and 2, as well as Gender Responsive Practices for Translators. Continued language study supports fluency and accuracy in chosen languages. In Year 3, students focus on professional development and specialisation through modules such as Researching the Translator’s Professional Environment, The Translator and Specialisation, Theoretical Aspects of Translation, and a Translation Project, alongside a Work Placement and Translation Dissertation. Interpreting Skills and advanced language modules further strengthen employability. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in translation, interpreting, and international communication by combining practical training, theoretical knowledge, and real-world professional experience.
