COURSE CURRICULUM

The Product and Furniture Design BA (Hons) is structured over three years and focuses on developing creative, technical, and professional skills in design practice. In Year 1, students are introduced to core principles through modules such as 3D Design and Development 1, 3D Workshop Practice, Critical & Contextual Studies 1, and Research and Visual Communication. This stage helps students build foundational making skills, design thinking abilities, and an understanding of visual communication and research methods. In Year 2, students progress to more advanced work through 3D Design and Development 2, 3D Design Realisation, and Critical & Contextual Studies 2, alongside Professional Practice 1, which introduces industry awareness and prepares students for professional expectations. This year places greater emphasis on refining design ideas and developing practical solutions. In Year 3, students undertake more independent and specialised study through 3D Design and Development 3, a Critical & Contextual Studies Dissertation, and a Major Project in Product and Furniture Design. Professional Practice 2 supports preparation for careers in the design industry, focusing on portfolio development and employability. Overall, the course develops creative confidence, technical expertise, and professional readiness, equipping graduates for careers in product and furniture design or further study in the field.
