COURSE CURRICULUM

The Journalism BA (Hons) program is structured across three years, gradually developing students’ skills in reporting, media production, and critical analysis. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Audio and Video Techniques, Digital Skills, Digital Storytelling, Reporting: News and Features, History of Journalism in Context, Journalism: Perspectives and Ideas, and Writing and Research Skills, which introduce key journalistic practices and communication methods. In Year 2, the focus shifts to professional development and industry engagement with modules including Journalism Industry Experience, Media Law and Ethics, Newsroom Production, Radio News and Podcasting, Video and Television Production, and Digital Project Management. Students also explore specialist areas such as documentary photography, film and television, podcast production, and cultural media topics, allowing for broader creative development. In Year 3, students advance to higher-level practice and independent work through modules such as Advanced Broadcast Journalism, Creative Practice and Research Dissertation Projects, Documentary Filmmaking, Campaigning Journalism, Magazine Branding, and Digital Video Post Production. Additional options include fashion writing, cultural journalism, and media theory subjects. Across all three years, the course combines practical training with critical understanding, helping students develop versatile skills, professional confidence, and a strong portfolio for careers in journalism and the wider media industry.
