COURSE CURRICULUM

The Journalism, Film and Television Studies BA (Hons) program is structured across three years, combining theoretical understanding with practical media production skills. In Year 1, students are introduced to core concepts through modules such as Approaches to Film and Television Studies, Film Theory and Film Style, Moving Image Practice, Sound Design, Digital Storytelling, Journalism: Perspectives and Ideas, and Writing and Research Skills, building a foundation in both media analysis and creative practice. In Year 2, the focus shifts to professional development and industry engagement with modules including Contemporary Television Studies, Media Industry Roles, Television Studio Practice, Video and Television Production, Journalism Industry Experience, Newsroom Production, and Digital Project Management. Students also explore specialist areas such as documentary photography, podcast production, film and television industries, and cultural media topics. In Year 3, the program emphasises advanced practice and independent work through modules such as Advanced Broadcast Journalism, Creative Practice and Research Dissertation Projects, Documentary Filmmaking, Campaigning Journalism, Digital Video Post Production, and a range of film and media theory subjects including global cinema, media audiences, and cultural studies. Across all years, the course develops versatile skills in storytelling, production, and analysis, preparing students for careers in journalism, film, television, and the wider media industry.
