COURSE CURRICULUM

The International Relations and Politics BA (Hons) is a three-year degree designed to help students understand the connections between global events, political systems, and social change. In Year 1, students study core foundations of political and international analysis through modules such as After Empire: Regions and Powers in World Politics, Conflict and Diplomacy Since 1945, Global Wealth and Inequality, Perspectives from the Global South, Political Science Concepts and Institutions, Understanding the International System, Violence, Peace and Progress, and What is Politics For?, which build essential knowledge of political ideas, history, and global systems. In Year 2, the focus expands to include both domestic and international perspectives through modules like British Politics, Contemporary US Politics, Foreign Policy Analysis, Theories of International Relations, Political Ideas in Modernity, Politics of the European Union, Politics of the Middle East, Sustainability and Environmental Justice, and research training through Paradigms and Politics. In Year 3, students engage in advanced and specialised study with modules such as International Security Studies, The Modern State, Global Populism, Human Rights and Global Justice, Strategic Communications, and options for placement or extended projects. Across all years, the course develops critical thinking, research skills, and a deep understanding of political systems and global issues, preparing students for careers in politics, policy, and international affairs.
