COURSE CURRICULUM

Interior Design and Decoration BA (Hons) is structured over three years of study, each stage building progressively from foundational knowledge to advanced professional practice. In Year 1, students undertake Critical & Contextual Studies 1 (Interiors), Design Principles for Interiors, Interior Design Communication and Techniques, and Spatial Design, which establish core understanding of spatial awareness, design thinking, visual communication, and the fundamental principles of interior environments. In Year 2, learning becomes more applied through Critical & Contextual Studies 2 (Interiors), Design Details, Human Scale, and Interior Design Practices and Techniques, with a strong focus on refining technical skills, material understanding, and user-centred design approaches that respond to human needs. In Year 3, students progress to independent and in-depth study through Critical & Contextual Studies 3: Dissertation (Interiors), Integrated Design Practice, Major Project Realisation: Interior Design and Decoration, and Project Design and Development for Interiors. This final year emphasises research, critical analysis, and the successful completion of a major design project that demonstrates creative maturity and professional capability. Across all three years, the course supports continuous development in creativity, technical ability, and conceptual thinking, encouraging students to integrate theory and practice effectively. By graduation, students are prepared for professional roles in interior design and decoration with strong portfolios and industry-relevant skills.
