COURSE CURRICULUM

The Illustration and Animation BA (Hons) degree at London Metropolitan University is structured over three years to develop students’ creative, technical, and professional skills in both traditional and digital media. In Year 1, students begin with foundational modules including Critical and Contextual Studies 1, Message and Meaning, Skills and Principles, and Work Ready Level 4, which introduce essential concepts in visual communication, technical drawing, animation fundamentals, and professional practice. This first year establishes the core skills required for further study, combining theoretical understanding with practical studio work. In Year 2, students build on this foundation through Critical and Contextual Studies 2, Skills and Enquiry, Voice and Vision, and Work Ready Level 5, focusing on developing a personal creative voice, enhancing technical proficiency, and applying problem-solving skills in more complex illustration and animation projects. Year 3 consolidates learning and prepares students for professional practice, with modules including Critical and Contextual Studies 3: Dissertation, the Major Project in Illustration and Animation, Skills and Innovation, and Work Ready Level 6. These modules emphasize independent research, portfolio development, and industry-relevant projects, allowing students to demonstrate their creative and technical expertise. Across all three years, the program integrates conceptual exploration, applied practice, and professional engagement, ensuring graduates leave with a strong portfolio, industry-ready skills, and the confidence to pursue careers as illustrators, animators, and creative professionals in both traditional and digital media.
