COURSE CURRICULUM

The Film and Television Studies BA (Hons) at London Metropolitan University is structured to provide students with a balanced combination of practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and critical analysis across three years. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through modules such as Approaches to Film and Television Studies, Digital Skills, Evolution of Film from 1895 to 1950, Film Theory and Film Style, Moving Image Practice, Revolution of Film and Television from 1950 to the contemporary media world, Sound Design for Linear Media, and Writing and Research Skills. This year introduces essential concepts in film history, media theory, and practical audio-visual techniques. The second year focuses on applied practice and professional engagement with modules including Contemporary European Cinema, Contemporary Television Studies, Location Sound and Dialogue Production, Media Industry Roles, Stardom, Performance and Celebrity, Television Studio Practice, Digital Project Management, Documentary Photography, Journalism Industry Experience, Podcast Production, Popular Music, Social Media Strategies, Styling and Journalism, and Short Film Screenwriting, giving students hands-on experience and insight into media production and industry practices. The final year emphasizes advanced research and independent projects through Creative Practice and Research Dissertations, Major Film and TV Projects, Documentary Filmmaking, Digital Video Post Production, Career Development Learning, and specialized modules exploring postcolonial cinema, queer media, audience research, and historical movements like the French New Wave. Across all three years, the program integrates theory, practice, and professional skills, preparing graduates for careers in media, film, television, and cultural industries.
