COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fashion Textiles BA (Hons) at London Metropolitan University is structured over three years to develop students’ technical expertise, creative skills, and professional readiness in textile design. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge and practical abilities through modules such as 3D Design and Development 1, 3D Workshop Practice, Critical and Contextual Studies 1, and Research and Visual Communication. These modules introduce core concepts of textile design, 3D construction, and visual research while fostering creativity and technical competence. The second year advances students’ learning with 3D Design Realisation, 3D Design and Development 2, Critical and Contextual Studies 2, and Professional Practice 1, emphasizing applied design, industry engagement, and the refinement of technical and conceptual skills. Students develop their understanding of materials, processes, and professional practices, preparing them for real-world challenges. In the final year, students consolidate their knowledge and skills through 3D Design and Development 3, Critical and Contextual Studies 3: Dissertation, Major Project Resolution in Fashion Textiles, and Professional Practice 2. This stage allows students to complete large-scale, independent projects, integrating research, design innovation, and professional insight. Across all three years, the course combines practical workshops, critical study, and industry-focused projects, enabling graduates to develop a distinctive portfolio, professional experience, and the confidence required for successful careers in fashion textiles and related creative industries.
