COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics and Finance BSc (Hons) degree provides a structured and comprehensive progression through economic theory, finance, and quantitative analysis, preparing students for careers in finance, policy, and business. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in data science, financial and management accounting, mathematical and statistical techniques, macroeconomics, microeconomics, and the social and political contexts of economics. The second year develops applied knowledge and practical skills, covering applied microeconomics and macroeconomics, investment, lending, labour economics, principles of finance, econometrics, risk and crisis management, and business problem-solving. Students also gain experience in creating inclusive organisations, sustainability, and learning through work opportunities that link theory to practice. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics such as development economics, financial and economic modelling, financial engineering, international banking, international trade and finance, and financial instruments, while also exploring artificial intelligence and big data in business. The course culminates in a dissertation, a professional experience placement, and the application of business strategy through simulations. Graduates leave the program equipped with strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills, as well as practical experience, enabling them to pursue careers in investment, banking, financial management, consultancy, policy-making, and other finance and economics-related sectors.
