COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology and Law BA (Hons) degree is structured over three years, combining the study of legal systems with criminological theory and practice. In Year 1, students are introduced to foundational legal and criminological concepts, with modules including Administrative Law, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law I, Legal Method, and core criminology modules such as Becoming a Criminologist, The Development of Criminological Thought, and Traditional Criminological Theories and Concepts. These provide a strong base in understanding both the legal framework and the theoretical tools used in criminology. Year 2 expands into more applied and specialized areas, including Criminal Law II, Law of Evidence, Consumer Rights Law, Law of Advocacy and Mooting, and Law of the European Union I, alongside criminology-focused modules such as Crime in Context, Crime, Media and Technology, Crimes of the Powerful, and Criminological Research in Practice. This combination develops analytical, research, and practical skills while providing insight into the functioning of the criminal justice system. In Year 3, students focus on advanced and professional topics, completing a Criminology Project and modules such as Criminal Litigation, Civil Liberties and Human Rights, Penal Policy, Environmental Law, and Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism. The program integrates academic knowledge with practical application, preparing graduates for careers in law, criminal justice, criminology, and related fields.
