COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Primate Behaviour, Conservation and Welfare at Liverpool John Moores University provides students with an in-depth understanding of primate ecology, behaviour, and conservation practices. The program combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, equipping students to address real-world challenges in primate research and conservation. Core modules include a dissertation, allowing students to undertake independent research, and Applied Research Methods, which develops essential skills in designing studies, analysing data, and interpreting results. The Primate Behaviour, Conservation and Welfare module explores behavioural ecology, social systems, cognition, welfare, and conservation strategies, while Contemporary Methods in Primatology introduces students to advanced techniques and technologies used in the field, such as behavioural observation, non-invasive health monitoring, and GIS mapping. The Field Skills for Primatologists module provides hands-on training in fieldwork, enabling students to apply their learning in in-situ and ex-situ settings, including field sites, sanctuaries, and conservation programs. This practical experience, combined with access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and guidance from experienced researchers, ensures that graduates develop both scientific expertise and professional competence.
