COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Health Psychology program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to meet BPS Stage 1 training requirements and develop both theoretical knowledge and applied skills in the field. Core modules provide a strong foundation in research and professional practice, beginning with Research Skills and Methodology for Health Psychology and Analysis for Health Psychology, which ensure students gain advanced research and data interpretation skills essential for evidence-based practice. The Empirical Project, worth 60 credits, allows students to undertake an independent research study, applying their learning to a significant health-related question. Modules such as Long-Term Conditions, Psychosocial Factors and Health, and Stress, Health and Coping explore how psychological, social, and behavioural factors affect the onset, progression, and management of health and illness, while Health Psychology: Context and Applications examines the practical role of psychology in promoting health, preventing illness, and improving healthcare delivery. The module on Fundamental Issues in Health Psychology provides a critical grounding in the discipline’s theories, ethical concerns, and applications. Together, these modules ensure students develop a holistic understanding of health psychology, while also gaining transferable skills in research, critical thinking, and professional practice, preparing them for Stage 2 training, doctoral study, or careers in health-related fields.
