COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Data Science at Liverpool John Moores University equips students with advanced knowledge and practical skills to address the challenges of analysing and interpreting large, complex datasets. The program combines statistical theory, computing techniques, and practical applications to prepare graduates for careers in industry or further research. Core modules provide a comprehensive foundation, including Introduction to Data Analytics, Statistical Methods in R, Big Data Computing, Research Methods in Data Science, Machine Learning and Data Mining, and Efficient Algorithms for Complex Data Sets. These modules develop students’ abilities to apply advanced analytical and computational methods to solve real-world problems. A central component of the program is the Data Science Project, which allows students to undertake an independent, high-level research or applied project, consolidating their technical knowledge while gaining experience in problem-solving, data management, and research design. An optional Work-Based Project provides further opportunity to apply skills in an industry setting, enhancing employability and professional experience. Delivered through a combination of lectures, tutorials, and hands-on laboratory sessions, the MSc emphasizes practical, industry-relevant skills while fostering critical thinking and innovation.
