COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Audio Forensics and Restoration at Liverpool John Moores University is a specialised program designed to provide students with advanced theoretical knowledge and practical skills across both forensic audio and media restoration. Core modules cover Audio Forensics Theory and Practice, equipping students with the expertise to analyse, authenticate, and enhance audio evidence to professional legal standards, preparing them to support investigations, act as expert witnesses, and operate within the frameworks of modern digital forensic services. Audio Restoration Theory and Practice focuses on preserving, repairing, and revitalising historical and legacy audio, including analogue recordings, archival soundtracks, and musical performances, for contemporary commercial distribution and media applications. Complementary modules such as Enterprise and the Commercial Context develop understanding of professional practice, employability, and entrepreneurial approaches within both the forensic and media industries, while Legacy Media Formats provide technical insight into historical and emerging media technologies. Students also engage with Law and Courtroom Skills to understand the legal and evidential frameworks relevant to audio forensics. Research Skills and the MSc Dissertation enable students to design, conduct, and report on independent research projects, integrating practical and theoretical learning.
