COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Sports Journalism program is structured around a set of core modules that combine theoretical knowledge with extensive practical training, preparing students for professional careers in the sports media industry. Journalism in Context introduces the wider role of journalism in society, while Media Law, Regulation and Court Reporting equips students with essential knowledge of legal and ethical frameworks. Sports Reporting and Essential Journalism provide foundational skills in news gathering, writing, and reporting, specifically tailored to sports contexts. Audio Visual Journalism develops technical expertise in filming, editing, and broadcast production, while the Multi-Platform Sports Journalism module focuses on producing engaging content across digital, print, and broadcast platforms, reflecting the demands of modern sports media. The Sports Portfolio and Professional Practice module helps students build a strong professional portfolio while developing the skills needed for industry employment. Alongside these, students choose either a Major Journalism Dissertation, allowing them to explore a research-based topic in depth, or a Major Journalism Practical Project, where they apply advanced skills in a real-world journalistic project. Together, these modules ensure that graduates leave with a balance of academic insight, technical expertise, and professional experience, making them well-prepared for diverse careers in sports journalism.
