COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Fine Art program at LJMU is structured around a series of core modules that encourage students to develop their practice through research, experimentation, and critical engagement. The Research and Practice 1 and 2 modules provide a foundation in research methodologies and theoretical frameworks, enabling students to situate their work within contemporary debates and contexts. Transdisciplinary Practice offers opportunities to collaborate across disciplines, fostering new perspectives and approaches that enhance creative development. Studio Practice is central to the program, allowing students to explore, refine and push the boundaries of their artistic methods within a supportive yet challenging environment. The Major Project serves as the culmination of the degree, giving students the opportunity to produce a substantial and resolved body of work that reflects their artistic growth and professional readiness. This structure is designed to balance independent practice with collaborative learning, providing both intellectual and practical frameworks for developing ambitious projects. By combining studio-based exploration with research-led practice, the program ensures graduates leave with a strong portfolio, advanced critical thinking skills, and the ability to engage with contemporary art contexts at a professional and international level.
