COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Criminal Justice at Liverpool John Moores University combines core theoretical knowledge with practical, research-led study to provide a comprehensive understanding of contemporary criminal justice issues. Core modules, including Researching Crime and Criminal Justice and Key Contemporary Issues in Criminal Justice, equip students with the analytical and methodological skills needed to examine the structures, policies, and practices shaping crime control and justice delivery. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests, such as youth justice, drugs and alcohol-related offending, advanced critical criminology, rehabilitation strategies, or policing, while international options provide insights into global crime, justice, and human rights. Research projects, including the dissertation or international dissertation, enable students to design and execute independent, in-depth investigations into relevant topics, developing high-level research, analytical, and reporting skills. The program fosters critical thinking, ethical awareness, and the ability to evaluate policy and practice in context, preparing graduates to engage with complex issues in criminal justice both domestically and internationally. By combining theoretical study, applied research, and specialist optional modules, students gain a broad yet detailed understanding of criminal justice systems and the skills necessary to pursue careers in policing, probation, policy development, research, advocacy, and other roles within the wider criminal justice sector.
