COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Wildlife Conservation at Liverpool John Moores University combines theoretical study with practical experience to prepare students for careers in conservation and environmental management. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge in ecology, genetics, evolution, animal behavior, scientific research methods, and the relationship between the environment and society. They also develop essential skills for wildlife conservation through hands-on activities. In the second year, the focus shifts to applied field skills, wildlife and ecosystem management, and conservation practice, alongside research skills and employability development. Students can also choose optional modules such as behavioral ecology, marine and freshwater biology, animal monitoring, animal health and disease, and environmental pollution. Opportunities for study abroad or a sandwich year provide valuable professional and international experience. The third year emphasizes independent research through a major project and explores contemporary issues in conservation. Optional modules allow students to specialize further, covering areas such as advanced field expeditions, zoo conservation, applied marine biology, primatology, sustainable natural heritage, river monitoring, and cold environment processes. Work-based learning opportunities enable students to apply knowledge in real-world settings. By integrating theory, practical skills, and field-based learning, the program equips graduates with the expertise, experience, and professional skills needed to pursue careers in wildlife conservation, ecology, and environmental management.
