COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying at Liverpool John Moores University equips students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed for a successful career in the construction and built environment sector. In the first year, students gain a foundational understanding of the role of the quantity surveyor within project environments, alongside core subjects including economics, management, law, digital construction technologies, measurement techniques, and construction technology. This year provides a solid grounding in both the technical and professional aspects of quantity surveying. In the second year, the focus shifts to developing practical skills and applying technical knowledge through modules on construction contract practice, procurement, project planning and control, design economics, measurement, and advanced construction technology. Students also have the opportunity to enhance their experience through a study year abroad or a paid sandwich placement, allowing them to apply learning in real-world contexts. In the final year, the emphasis is on advanced research, professional practice, and financial and risk management. Students complete a construction research project while studying project finance, risk management, business management, and advanced measurement techniques. Across all three years, the program combines theory, practical application, and industry engagement, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to enter the profession and meet the demands of modern construction projects.
