COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Policing, Psychology and Investigations degree at Liverpool John Moores University offers a three-year program that integrates policing, forensic psychology, and investigative techniques to prepare students for careers in law enforcement, criminal investigation, and the wider criminal justice system. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules such as Introduction to Policing and Investigation, Practice, Procedure and the Criminal Law, introductory modules in developmental, biological, and cognitive psychology, research methods and statistics, and skills for success in policing and forensic psychology. The second year expands on this foundation with advanced modules in policing communities, law and procedure, cognitive and biological psychology, developmental and social psychology, individual differences, psychology of investigation, and advanced quantitative research methods, alongside optional opportunities for study abroad. In the final year, students focus on applied research and specialist topics through a Research Project, Forensic and Investigative Psychology, and approaches to protecting vulnerable people and managing offenders. Optional modules allow for further specialisation in areas such as terrorism and counter-terrorism, comparative policing studies, security and risk, investigative intelligence, psychopharmacology, addictive behaviour, social cognition, face perception, work psychology, and the psychology of sexual violence. Throughout the program, students develop practical, analytical, and ethical skills, combining theoretical knowledge with applied experience to become competent and confident professionals in policing, investigative, and forensic psychology roles.
