COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Physical Education degree at Liverpool John Moores University provides a three-year program that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical experience to prepare students for careers in education, sport, and related fields. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules in research methods, exercise physiology, human movement, psychosocial principles of sport and exercise, professional practice, and learning in PE and sport contexts. This year emphasizes both academic understanding and hands-on application in practical settings. The second year advances these skills with continued study in research methods, professional practice, and learning in PE and sport contexts, while introducing modules in PE teacher education, physical education in action, sport and performance psychology, and the societal aspects of sport and PE. Students may also choose optional opportunities such as study abroad, a sandwich year, or advanced exercise physiology modules, allowing them to gain international experience and industry exposure. In the final year, the focus shifts to independent research and applied practice, with a major project, applied placement, and advanced modules in PE and sport contexts. Optional modules such as strength and conditioning, behaviour change, performance analysis, PE teacher education, and interdisciplinary coaching science enable students to specialise and tailor their learning. The program ensures that graduates develop the knowledge, practical skills, and professional experience needed to pursue successful careers in teaching, coaching, sport development, or further academic study.
