COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science at Liverpool John Moores University provides a comprehensive three-year curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills to prepare students for a career as a registered paramedic. In the first year, students build a foundation in anatomy and physiology, human health, illness, diagnosis and treatment, as well as the structure and function of the body, alongside modules in communication, professionalism, and paramedic practice. This establishes essential clinical and professional skills for safe and effective patient care. The second year advances these skills through modules in pathophysiology, applied pharmacology, clinical examination, assessment and decision-making, and advanced practice, while also incorporating research methodologies and professional values to develop critical thinking and evidence-based practice. In the final year, students focus on advanced and integrated practice, including enhanced clinical skills, leadership as a practice educator, and the paramedic approach within urgent care services. Students also complete modules in research expansion and critical review, consolidating their academic and clinical expertise. Across all three years, the program emphasizes independent decision-making, teamwork, and leadership, preparing graduates to respond confidently to complex and dynamic emergency situations.
