COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mathematics with Finance degree at Liverpool John Moores University combines rigorous mathematical training with a strong focus on financial applications, preparing students for careers in both fields. In the first year, students study core subjects including accounting and finance, data exploration and analysis, mathematical methods, linear algebra, computer programming, and fundamental mathematics, laying the groundwork in both mathematics and financial principles. The second year builds on this foundation with modules in investment and financial analysis, further mathematical methods, statistical modelling, probability and risk, differential equations, and personal and professional development. Students also have the option of completing a sandwich year in industry or studying abroad, each worth 120 credits, offering valuable practical experience and international exposure. In the final year, students undertake a significant project alongside core modules in advanced calculus and partial differential equations and international corporate finance. A wide range of optional modules allows for specialisation in areas such as personal finance, operational research, workplace statistics, data science, multivariate analysis, time series, or mathematical biology.
