COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Geography at Liverpool John Moores University combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills to provide a comprehensive understanding of physical and human geography. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in earth systems, human and physical landscapes, hazards, sustainability, and essential research methods while also exploring career opportunities within the field. The second year builds on these foundations with modules in GIS, international environments, and project design, alongside optional subjects such as environmental pollution, urban geography, the cryosphere, and climate change. Students also have the opportunity to gain professional experience through a sandwich placement or study abroad programs, further enhancing employability and practical understanding. In the final year, students complete a dissertation and can select optional modules tailored to their interests, including sustainable natural heritage, coastal and marine management, environmental modelling, river monitoring, cold environments, renewable energy, and future environmental challenges. Across all three years, the course emphasizes hands-on experience, problem-solving, and the application of skills to real-world environmental issues. Graduates are equipped with advanced analytical and technical skills, including GIS proficiency, fieldwork expertise, and research capabilities, preparing them for careers in environmental management, planning, sustainability, climate change consultancy, and other geography-related professions, as well as further study and research opportunities.
